We’re excited to announce the relaunch of the Thanx blog! We’re calling it “In the Chair” because each post could be a conversation you have during a visit to Thanx. We’ll use this space to share who we are and what we do – everything from homecare tips to upcoming events to personal stories – all meant to inform or inspire, or a little of both. Today we’ll introduce ourselves and answer a few questions. We hope you’ll come back month after month to get to know us better.
The Thanx Basics
Thanx Hair Artistry is a full service salon located in Exeter, Pennsylvania offering haircuts, hair coloring, highlights, manicures, pedicures, and makeup services. Owner Diane Keck and her vibe tribe of amazing stylists take pride not just in the work they do, but also the positive, relaxing atmosphere they cultivate in their studio. They’re even prouder of the way they serve their community with their Wig Boutique, offering free wigs and personalized, private fittings for those going through cancer treatment.
How I Became a Thanx Superfan (and Blog Writer)
If you’re wondering about the woman behind the words, my name is Amy and I’ve been a Thanx customer for more than five years. Two careers ago I worked for the American Cancer Society in event planning and income development. I met Diane through the Relay For Life of Exeter, where we worked closely together as she organized activities and entertainment for several years. She also once cut off my pigtails on a sweltering, windy football field so they could be turned into a wig for a cancer patient. Diane’s infectiously positive spirit made her one of my favorite volunteers.
After I left ACS I resolved to make self-care more of a priority. Part of that goal involved coming to Thanx for some regularly scheduled pampering. I’ve greatly enjoyed the chance to play around with my hair color and catch up with Diane every few months. Because of our chats, Diane knew that I left my second career a year ago to live my dream of writing a novel, and was also doing some freelance content writing on the side. I was honored when she asked me to write some posts for Thanx to get the blog off the ground.
Why is the Salon Named Thanx?
Originally, the name Thanx was a bit tongue in cheek. Early in her career Diane heard a platform artist suggest that stylists should name their studios “Thanks” because when someone gets their hair done and doesn’t like it, they’ll tell everyone they know every detail of the salon to warn them away. But when they love their hair they’ll reply to compliments with a simple “thanks.” If that’s the name of the salon, they don’t need to remember anything else.
By the time Di was ready to open her studio, that reasoning felt a bit trivial. But as she grew in her faith, the name Thanx resonated for a different reason. She knew she didn’t want to name the salon after herself, because she wanted all her team members to feel equally included and not part of a one woman show. The name Thanx reminded her of her gratitude toward God for providing this opportunity to open her own studio. Every time it’s spoken, it offers praise to God for that blessing.
Why does Thanx also Run a Wig Boutique?
We’ll tell the whole story in more detail in a future post, but here’s a short version. Diane’s heart for those with cancer began twenty-six years ago when a long time client shared that she’d just been diagnosed with breast cancer and didn’t know what to do. Di called the American Cancer Society for answers, and soon found herself volunteering as a wig fitter and opening a satellite wig bank location. When ACS sunsetted their wig program, Di decided to start her own at Thanx.
Diane’s goal is that everyone she helps at the Wig Boutique is fully satisfied with their new wig, and it gives them the confidence to go about their daily lives despite the changes caused by their cancer treatment. She goes above and beyond to find the right style and fit for each person she serves. If you or someone you know is going through cancer and needs a wig, find out more and book an appointment.
What does Thanksgiving mean to the Thanx team?
With a name like Thanx, Thanksgiving is particularly dear to our hearts. We have so much gratitude for everyone who comes through our door. We know there are lots of hair and nail options out there, and we are so thankful when someone chooses us. We can’t say it enough – thank you, thank you, thank you! We’re also thankful that you’re taking the time to read this blog to get to know us a little deeper.
We’re also so thankful for our tribe of supporters. That includes our business partners and the Exeter community at large, as well as anyone who’s supported any of our wig bank fundraisers.
Each member of the vibe tribe is also grateful for the people in their own lives. Family, friends, each other. The people who love and inspire us. Those who push us to be better leaders. Anyone who can make us laugh.
Di is also grateful for her amazing team of stylists that she gets to work with every day. Until Next Time…
